We have received the OIML R134 certificate, which confirms the compliance of our Weighing in Motion (WIM) systems with the highest international metrology standards. The certificate confirms that our WIM systems achieve accuracy class 10F in accordance with the requirements of the OIML R134 recommendation. This means that our results are precise, repeatable and internationally comparable, which is an important confirmation of the quality and reliability of our measurements.

By obtaining this certificate, we demonstrate that our development, calibration and verification procedures meet the most stringent technical and metrological requirements. The certificate is the result of many years of development, testing and cooperation with international experts in the field of weighing in traffic. It represents an important milestone in confirming the technical excellence of our solutions and further ensures user confidence in the quality of our systems.

Three PhD positions are still available as part of the project Bridgitise, whose aim it is to develop effective bridge management methods for aging and deteriorating bridges. Cestel is participating in the Bridgitise project together with the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute; our topic of research is the use of vision-based data and machine learning in improving bridge weigh-in-motion technology (position DC4).

Bridgitise is a project funded under the Horizon Europe funding programme for research and innovation. As part of the project, we will host a PhD student for 36 months – click here for more information on the position.

May is traditionally quite packed with different events related to the ITS industry. Here’s a short overview of the conferences and seminars we will attend this month.

We will kick off May with the ISWIM webinar on WIM data for bridges, which will be followed by Conference on Slovenian Municipal Roads, an event dedicated to the challenges facing Slovenian municipalities. One of the emphasis of this year’s conference will be how to curtail speeding on municipal roads; we will present our experience with incognito and sectional speed measurements.

Traffex, one of the UK’s biggest events on traffic management and road safety, will take place on 22 and 23 May, followed by the ITS Asia Pacific Forum in Indonesia, an event we visit every year.

We will conclude the month with the 5th Serbian Road Congress, where we will present an article titled Use of bridge weigh-in-motion data: A case study of the Republic of Serbia.

ISWIM is organizing a free webinar titled ”Unlocking the Potential of WIM Data for Bridges”. The webinar will take place on 16 May 2024 from 15:00 to 16:50 (Central European Time).

Intertraffic Amsterdam, which is one of the most important international events for the ITS community, was successfully concluded on 19 April 2024. The four-day event brought together companies from the ITS industry, research institutions, and infrastructure owners and was again packed with visitors.

Our stand, which was dedicated to showcasing our Structural Bridge WIM Diagnostics System, had two major novelties – a hologram and a bridge, both of which attracted many visitors!

Cestel has been a regular fixture in Amsterdam since 2002. As has been a tradition for the past few years, we hosted the ISWIM Vendors’ meeting at our stand, as well as an event showcasing traditional Slovenian wines.

We’ll be back in two years!

Dewesoft’s Measurement Conference is a 3-day event aimed at bringing together representatives and experts from the construction, automotive, and aviation industries. The conference is an annual event, this year it took place between 16 and 18 April in Laško, Slovenia.

We visited the first day of the conference, which was dedicated to the structural health monitoring of bridges. Together with Dr. Andrej Anžlin from the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute, we had a presentation on the concept of structural health monitoring in combination with bridge weigh-in-motion.

The event was visited by experts from across the world, so we will gladly return next year!

Matija Mavrič, the head of sales and marketing at Cestel, was appointed to the executive board of the ISWIM as the chair of the vendors’ college. Matija has been involved in the WIM industry for over 20 years and has worldwide experience with the implementation of weigh-in-motion technology.

ISWIM is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of weigh-in-motion technology and the data gathered by the WIM systems. It’s members consists of representatives from the industry, research institution and governmental officials.

As part of the EU-funded project Bridgitse, the call for the 16 positions for PhD students has been published on Euraxess.

The aim of the Bridgitise project is the development of different cost-effective systems and practices for the cost-effective management of bridges. The project is divided into 16 categories, each of which is overseen by a scientific institution and an industry partner.

Cestel and the Slovenian National Building And Civil Engineering Institute are responsible for the PhD position 4: WIM-Advanced Bridge Weigh in Motion (B-WIM) performance using vision-based data and machine learning. Aging infrastructure and extreme weather events do not go together, which is why the EU is funding a series of research projects aimed at developing new methods of safeguarding roads, bridges, tunnels, and other critical infrastructure.

One of these projects is Bridgitise, which officially kicked off this month. The goal of Bridgitise is to connect research institutions and industry members with PhD students with the aim of developing new methods of monitoring the state of bridges.
